I am in full support of arming our Park Rangers with Tasers and firearms. They need the ability to protect themselves immediately, not six months down the road.
We need to support our entire law enforcement community, not acquiesce to perceived political correctness, and recognize that our Park Rangers play a vital role in the health of our Community and our watershed.
I also support moving the Ranger program to the Police Department, including IPA oversight.
If this is about the rangers being armed, I’m for it, maybe. I do question the overall safety of the public if there are other rangers who are as large as the woman who presented in the last meeting. She could barely get up the stairs afterwards. Law officers need to have a level of fitness to do their job and adding a gun would be a bad solution to a lack of fitness. She gets attacked and automatically goes to use her gun because she can’t get back up or can’t engage in any physical defense.
