I want to urge the committee to support Councilmember Carrasco and Arenas recommendation for San Jose's Planned Parenthood's. As the program director for Every Women Counts I see the impact Planned Parenthood has on women impacted by Breast and Cervical Cancer. They guide patients through cancer screening and ensure they have access to treatment. I hear directly from patients how Planned Parenthood has supported them through these difficult times, in a respectable and dignified manner.
I am writing in support of the memo submitted by Council members Carrasco and Arenas to provide gap funding to Planned Parenthood, and I do so as an ally and a person who used Planned Parenthood when I had no health insurance. Attacks against Planned Parenthood always focus on its abortion services, but for me, Planned Parenthood provided affordable basic care. That it is under assault right now is not just an issue for women, but for everyone who needs access to healthcare.
