I am writing to urge you to pass an urgency ordinance pausing rent for the many tenants in San Jose who are losing their incomes due to the COVID-19 crisis. San José’s eviction moratorium is keeping families housed, but families who are relying on this protection and unable to work or otherwise replace their income will fall into insurmountable debt and face displacement once the COVID-19 crisis is over unless City Council also suspends their rent.
