The goal should be to spend money and time on issues that reduce infections and restart the local economy. Do not begin building of Tiny Homes for the homeless during this time. Hotels/Motels have vacancy. Use this space to place the homeless to provide immediate cover. Put this project on hold. The city will likely start seeing a decrease of sales revenues and property taxes will follow if the economic downturn persists.
The public e-comments got deleted by the city (yet again). I think the way the city has behaved in making sure that the public simply does not get a chance to have their say should have a role in getting an injunction from a court later on if construction activity starts here. The residents here have time and again objected to their neighborhood being a dumping ground for homeless residents.
There is only one way in and out of Basking Ridge community and proposal to bring tiny home community at the entrance of this community will diminish our hard earned equity and put families safety at risk. Please locating this community to part of CA where economical impact to tax payers and local citizens is minimal. Please don’t punish hard working professional families of Basking Ridge. This will result in significant reduction in home values and increase crime. (Please do not delete)
D2 has added a new mental hospital in recent years and has multiple “tent cities” along Monterey Hwy. These thing have already added to loitering and crime at the gas station across from the site and beyond, and this plan seems random and meager (compared to the state plan to use hotels). Is that small patch of grass even safe, at an intersection? It doesn’t seem thought through. It smells of “let’s just stick it by the apartments and mobile home park.” Be comprehensive, please, and be fair.
Sergio says the housing isn’t for COVID+ residents but Mayor Liccardo and Mercury News have reported the exact opposite. It’s unclear whether our leaders are choosing to obscure the truth or blatantly lie but I’m sure that spreading misinformation is harmful. It’s unfortunate they are using a global pandemic to hide behind the guise of bureaucracy and tactless efforts to push forward a project that will ultimately harm the community AND the homeless population as their needs are not properly met
OPPOSE STRONGLY! Please do not keep deleting/hiding our previous comments. We cannot accept this decision. This is a threat to the safety of the residents currently residing at MetCalf, Basking Ridge and all other close residential neighborhoods. The City Council cannot escape from hearing concerned residents on this important matter. We are all united against this action.
Do not approve Tiny Homes at Bernal and Monterey Road - it is very close to our neighborhoods - bringing more crime, drugs, trash to our community - everyone in D2 also opposes this move. Project Room Key can help with temp housing through this Covid 19 crisis. Please do not rush to vote on this as it will impact our neighborhoods for 10-15 years and beyond.
One time, I give the benefit of doubt. Second time? Not so much. I’ll keep commenting that I STRONGLY OPPOSE the motion to bring tiny homes to District 2
Also, I want to call out that many members of the public have been patiently waiting over 6 hours at this point on the 4/21 meeting call, patiently awaiting our turn to voice our concerns. Just remember that we will not just give up!
I oppose this resolution. I oppose to build on Bernal/Monterey as it is unsafe, too close to residential neighborhood, schools and leads to increase in crime. I had posted my comments earlier 2 times and you deleted it!
I oppose the Monterey / Bernal Tiny Homes. The Covid-19 pandemic is being used as an excuse to push forward this project, which has been adamantly opposed to and as you can hear is still opposed to today. Please don’t allow this project to move forward. I oppose it, my family opposes it and would ask that the city reassess their approach and not accept a past idea as the best idea at this time.
Evans Lane is an ideal location and has been Identified for transitional housing several years ago.it is accessible to Support that would be necessary for our currently unhoused. Second harvest food Bank support services are close by
Why are we placing 80 homes or 80 people on such a small spot as Bernal and Monterey? And why are we Having a second location within 10 miles of Bernal and Monterey ?
Every district needs to participate. District 2 is shouldering 2 spots ?

We must focus on finding REAL solutions if you truly care about helping the vulnerable population and fighting to solve homelessness, rather than slapping up small sheds in an unlivable location @ Monterey/Bernal Rd (no businesses, no restaurants/grocery stores, no bus/train stations, no hospitals nearby)--NOBODY, the homeless population or the residential community--wins in this case. We need to build up resources (mental health/social services, etc.) that will get to the root of the problem.
I will not stop opposing. The more times you delete the comment. The more times we comment again. You know this is impractical and inflicting on us residents, that's why you keep on deleting the 100+ comments made - twice!
I ask that the 100+ comments opposing this motion be returned to this site. It seems like they keep on getting deleted (2nd time today!)
I ask also that the members read the 100+ pages of letters opposing this motion.
I oppose the Monterey/Bernal site due to the proximity to residences, proximity to traffic leading to potential accidents, existing capacity in motels for homeless, large amount of resources being allocated for a temporary solution that might not work in a Covid / Post-Covid world.
(2/2) further proving that this is an extremely poorly chosen site. As a result, the surrounding neighborhoods in district 2 will bear the brunt of the problem when these individuals inevitably graze around the area. We must treat the root of the problem (provide treatment for mental health problems and addiction by building a cohesive safety net including social services and healthcare, etc), or we will never have enough homes.
(1/2) The tiny homes are an impractical, and honestly, downright dangerous program. In addition, the proposed site on Bernal Rd/Monterey Rd is not suitable for a population of homeless individuals. Firstly, the proposed site is on the side of an off-ramp, which is of itself an unnecessarily hazardous location for the population that will reside in that area due to oncoming traffic. Secondly, there are no businesses, health services, or modes of transportation within the vicinity of the site

Why are the comments being deleted?????? Dirty politics. Why aren't these homes built where the council members live???
