We need to defund the police and invest in our communities. Policing will not make our city safer but reducing the conditions of poverty will. We need access to affordable housing, healthcare and better schools. When we invest in the community we reduce the conditions of poverty and inequality that create high crime rates in the first place.

We are no longer asking we are demanding a reform and defunding the systematically racist sjpd. We need to reinvest in community care, education, homelessness, and health care. When the protest began sjpd used EXCESSIVE FORCE, shot rubber bullets, and used tear gassed on peaceful protesters. They showed up dressed for a riot, when they wasn't one they created one with their weapons. San fransicco has already set laws for reform we can too.

    Hello,

I do not support funding the police. We need services for homeless, cleaning up the streets and dismantling and building up the police department from the ground up. We also need to dismantle and defund the sheriffs department. We need police that serve our communities, not incite fear and violence. We need police only in the cases where police are trained, not in social service, child service or other calls for which they are not emotionally or mentally trained for.

I am sorry to see the defunding of unfilled CSO positions. I think this is entirely the wrong direction. Please consider restructuring the current police force so that MOST of our officers are not armed with deadly force (guns), so that their presence de-escalates the situations they encounter, and their authority is not based on the threat of deadly force. Armed response should be the exception. Over time this can change the entire culture of the force, and the community response to it.
