We must prioritize the urgent needs of San Jose's Black and Brown communities over the enormous budget of our city's police. I am a resident of D3 and I agree with SV DE-Bug's demand that the City of San Jose defund the police and fully fund community services. Today's proposal is perhaps a step in the right direction, but too little, too late.

After decades of broken promises and empty reforms, Black and Brown communities continue to be the targets and victims of police violence, abuse, incarceration, as the budget for SJPD balloons at the expense of community programs. We must address the urgent needs of San Jose's Black and Brown communities. As a member of SURJ at Sacred Heart and a longtime resident of D3, I support Silicon Valley De-Bug in demanding that the City of San Jose defund the police and fully fund community services.
