I was born in the region of Liguria, Italy and grew up with the story of Columbus. Beyond this it is pride in my Italian heritage that drives my passion. This proclamation only gives recognition and voice to the Indigenous people while totally ignoring the Italian-Americans. To avoid the appearance of bias and preference, I ask the Council to postpone today’s vote until the Italian Community and the appropriate Tribes can meet and together mutually come to a resolution.
Changing from Columbus Day to Italian American Heritage Day is an opportunity to honor all the great Italians and not just Columbus. A win. We don't want to share the day. Are the Indigenous peoples celebrating strife in SCC or in the America's generally. That doesn't apply if not locally. Italians hugely contributed to the making of SCC. We are done with keeping the peace and deserve to have our own day to celebrate as it has always been. No party crashers. Find another day. Lets meet :)
The Hispanic have Cinco de Mayo, the Irish have St. Patrick Day, Why can't the Italians have a day to celebrate, the name of the day doesn't matter as long it's a day for Italians to celebrate.
ROGC 20-433 - The Italian American Heritage Foundation opposes any proposition to eliminate the federal Columbus Day in any form. We look forward to meeting with the Indigenous People in search of a peaceful compromise. The narrative does not support the consensus of the Italian American community and is founded on a selective, flawed and seriously compromised narrative. The Italian American community has suffered greatly historically and does not deserve this new affront on our proud heritage.

Has anyone suggestion an Italian-American Heritage month? We could recognize many Italians throughout the month.
