I support Larry Scirotto as Police Chief. As an experienced OUTSIDER, from a diversified city, where he had to work with the dynamics of race and equity, he will bring a fresh perspective. This is enhanced by his involvement with the National Initiative for Building Community Trust and Justice and the 21st Century Policing.The IPA community survey found 2/3 negative rating in all SJPD categories. Our PD requires a major shift to rebuild trust & community-police relationships.
I am a District 4 resident and volunteer in PACT's Beloved Community group. Thank you to the city manager's office and city council in pursuing a reimagined public safety and seeking community engagement and involvement in the selection of a new police chief. I want to express my support for Larry Scirotto as the finalist for San Jose Police Chief. Reimagined public safety goes beyond reform, and requires fresh perspectives from outside our current SJPD leadership and structures.
