The Guadalupe River Park Conservancy submitted a letter on May 3, 2021 regarding the proposed Breeze of Innovation. Our letter focused on the environment. We believe Arena Green would benefit from active uses - especially in light of houselessness and a lack of City maintenance. Whether the project can catalyze more active and safe use by the community will depend on final design near the sensitive riparian habitat. We are hopeful that the project can achieve this goal. Thank you.
Please do not approve this project. It will create unnecessary nighttime light pollution, drive migratory birds to their deaths, distract pilots, and upset the natural circadian rhythms of all organisms within the ecosystem, including humans. I urge the mayor and all ten councilmembers to vote NO on this project. City funds would be much better spent in helping those in our community who need it most: seniors, unemployed, unhoused, disabled, disadvantaged. https://scvas.org/conservation-corner
Birds will be driven off their course because of the unnatural light that changes the direction of their flight. Animals other than birds will also be affected because the structure would be placed in the middle of a thriving ecosystem. The structure would cause a harmful change of circadian rhythms that would totally devastate both the rivers surrounding Guadalupe Park.
