The economic impact of the pandemic has been brutally uneven across industries in San Jose. More than 50% of job losses (43,600) have occurred within the Leisure & Hospitality sector. If we are to build back to a better normal the City must directly address the challenges faced by the small businesses and workers of this sector. I encourage the Council to support Budget Document (BD #37) proposed by Council member Peralez. To be effective the City-wide Recovery Task needs resources. Thank you.
Every year our business experiences substantial increases in Fire Department fees, environmental fees both City and County and disposal costs. A small business that is sixty plus years old, cannot continue to sustain itself with a doubling of Property Taxes, soaring labor costs, utility costs, and California over regulation. Why is the City allowing increases during a Pandemic?
