It is the height of irony to proclaim May to be "Affordable Housing Month" in the same Agenda that the Council is being asked to cancel voter-approved funding of ... Affordable Housing. Reallocating funds already allocated but not spent doesn't count - why haven't these funds previously been spent while we saw dramatic increases in homelessness? The HCD Commission - specifically charged with the task of oversight of Measure E funds -- has voted 11-0 to OPPOSE the proposed cuts. Do not do this!
Measure E funds is for housing assistance. We voted! Our votes should be honored. We are the 10th largest city & so many tents are here on the sides of freeways & under bridges. I thought leaders cared about our community & the vulnerable souls out here; elderly, handicap, single mothers, homeless children. Stop treating this like a 3rd world country! Please allocate the funds for what we intended to use it for and thats for housing. A year with no funds can change lives for the worse.
Allocating Zero funds for the incoming budget will slow if not stop forward progress on this initiative. We voted for Measure E, to combat the growing homeless issue, fund veterans housing, disabled adults, and provide financial support for the financially stressed families in our community. Measure E's percentage allocations need to continue as is with no change to the percentage allocations. A year paused can be costly to the most vulnerable in our community.
