3.5 23-1441 Resolution Affirming Support of the Transgender and Broader LGBTQ+ Communities. - PUBLIC COMMENT LIMITED TO 30 MINUTES TOTAL, 1 MINUTE PER SPEAKER
I support the resolution to ensure all residents+children can live in a safe/inclusive/caring environment regardless of gender/sexual identity. We achieve that through education. You cannot ignore LGBTQ+ issues in school. Young people already know of romantic/sexual relationships and genders, and discover their own while in school. They need to learn that their (and their friends') identities are valid. Straight, cis AND LGBTQ+ must be taught+supported. This is inclusive and fair, not biased.
Giving bookmarks to parents to let them know their rights to opt out of age inappropriate curriculum does not equate to anti-LGBQT+ or anti-transgender. Preventing age inappropriate books/materials in the school libraries does not equate to anti-LGBQT+ or anti-transgender. Thus, the resolution has false claims.
Don’t promote one group like LGBQT+ above another; stop dividing us by race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. We are all Americans and should be treated equally. No on the resolution!
