A fire (pictured) on Friday at the Sky Avenue shopping mall, part of the resort's World Genting (RWG) casino resort in Malaysia, evacuated guests and visitors. Genting Malaysia Bhd, a promoter of the property, said no other parts of the complex were affected.

According to the company, the fire started at around 4:30 p.m. and was extinguished at around 7:15 p.m. that day.

"All other areas of the resort are not affected. Evacuations were carried out immediately to ensure the public was not harmed," Genting Malaysia said on Resorts World Genting's website.

Local news outlet Cosmo said at least 5,000 people were evacuated during the incident. Photos and videos shared on social media showed black plumes of smoke and a fire stabbing at least one side of the building.

In its most recent update, Genting Malaysia said all visitors had been "safely evacuated," and the Fire and Rescue Service had "permission to reopen Sky Avenue."

It added that most outlets on Sky Avenue will remain open except for some near the affected areas that will be temporarily closed.

Resort World Genting Malaysia's only casino complex is in the highlands outside Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur. The complex is a popular entertainment destination, offering both indoor and outdoor theme parks and shopping malls.

"Our theme parks, Genting Skyworld and Skyrockolis, will remain unaffected along with other attractions and will operate as normal. Awana Skyway will also operate as scheduled," Genting Malaysia said in an update.
