This ordnance 22-045 will deter citizens from protecting themselves when crime is so high. We have the right to protect ourselves since police can't. It is of course unconstitutional the council will just get bad publicity for approving the worst gun law in the nation. I oppose this gun law. More money will have to be spent by the city in the course when you know you can't win. So why do this?

I encourage Council to vote "NO" on the Gun Harm Ordinance. It is unconstitutional and will do nothing to reduce gun harm in San Jose. Get ready to spend a tremendous amount of money (my tax money) to defend this outrageous ordinance.

The gun-harm-reduction ordinance will do nothing to reduce gun violence. Our residents opposed it nearly 100 to 1. Listen to the people! The tax is illegal. The negligent liability insurance does not exist. The city attorney stated SJ cannot legally impound a firearm for only noncompliance with this ordinance. Instead, the council should adopt other solutions available to reduce violence in SJ. I strongly oppose this ordinance and urge the council to change their votes to oppose it as well.

I OPPOSE any and all San Jose gun ordinances!

Criminals will STILL commit crimes! Why is this so hard for you to understand?

Stop taking our rights away. HONOR YOUR OATH to the Constitution!!!

I strongly oppose File 22-045 “Gun Harm Reduction Ordinance”. 1) It’s unconstitutional. 2) No one sells liability insurance coverage for firearms. Citizens CANNOT comply. 3) An opposing suit has already been filed. 4) Lots of money will be wasted futilely defending a known unconstitutional law. 5) Projected revenue will not come. 6) Benefits will not be realized. 7) The only effects will be less money for City needs and less political support by your constituents. Please vote NO.

This ordinance will immediately be met with lawsuits for which significant tax dollars will be used in litigation and will likely be defeated. Those funds should be more wisely used for gun ownership training and safety education to help ensure gun owners are knowledgeable in safe operation, care, and storage of any firearms they may own.

I strongly oppose file 22-045, gun ordinance/tax. California already has some of the harshest regulations for gun ownership in the country and yet with all that legislation, gun violence is still skyrocketing across the state. It's almost as if gun control doesn't work. Most gun violence is linked to gang and drug activity and has nothing to do with responsible, law abiding gun ownership. How is systemically taking away one's ability to protect themselves from criminals "good for public safety"?

I am opposed to gun ordinance. As it will do nothing to stop gun crime. It only punishes law abiding citizens, because as we all know. They will not pay the tax or purchase any policy. The 2nd Amendment makes it a right to own a firearm, not a privilege. Any new gun ordinance is an infringement on that right. Citizens have not been given a chance to vote on this tax either. I urge you to do the right thing and oppose this as a public servant. Your constituents did not ask for this.

The gun-harm-reduction ordinance will do nothing to reduce gun violence. It is yet one more burden on a struggling the middle class. Council members should expect recall elections if voting for this, another waste of taxpayer funds. VOTE NO.

These gun laws are unconstitutional. Please stop punishing tax paying citizens. This will do nothing to stop gun violence, since most gun violence is done by criminals who obtain guns illegally. STOP THIS NOW.

I strongly oppose the city of San José's attack on a constitutionally protected human right. Lower income residents and families will be especially hurt.

This ordinance is reminscent of now indicted Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith who is under investigation for allegedly approving conceal carry permits more often to those who donated to her. Infringing on basic human rights is morally bankrupt. Do better.

As a law abiding citizen I strongly oppose this bill. An obvious revenue scam and illegal tax. People who commit gun violence would never pay for such an insurance policy and “fee”. All you are doing is placing an undue burden on responsible gun owners. STOP THIS NOW.

I STRONGLY oppose this gun ordinance/tax. This will have no affect on criminals and gun violence as it only affects the law abiding citizens. In what part of our country do we ever tax a constitutional right? This is just another knee-jerk reaction to make people think the Liccardo and the 'leaders' of San Jose are doing something... when it fact it's just all for show and this will do absolutely nothing but waste taxpayers time/money in court.
