Strongly oppose. I am a San Jose landlord. Most of my tenants paid their rent as of April 2020 or about 90%. The ones who did not pay are the SAME problem tenants going back 2+ years, nothing new. Will the City council consider to give your salary or City budget to pay for my property tax, mortgage, utilities, insurance, vacancy, repairs and more?
Our community urgently needs a rent pause for tenants who have lost their income due to the COVID-19 crisis. Failing to put a rent pause in place will only increase debt, displacement, homeless for San Jose’s low-income residents and communities of color later down the line.
The Federal government announced relief for homeowners on mortgage payments. If landlords get relief on mortgage, why can’t tenants have a rent pause?
Please use city reserve fund. Please go after CCP chinese communist party for compensation. Why you rob home owners???? Home owners also lose jobs due to the virus!!! Don’t do communist here!!!

No mandate now, possibly down the road. Let’s see if the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security(CARE) Act is enough. And there is talk about a second stage of CARE with more financial help being made available.
Please vote for a 90 day rent suspension, before tenants are forced to choose between going out into the community to work despite public health orders vs. homelessness/starvation. The Law Foundation of Silicon Valley, Public Counsel & the Public Interest Law Project all agree that in times of crisis, local governments have emergency powers under Article XI, Section 7 of the CA Constitution to preserve the life, health, safety, & wellbeing of their people. Be on the right side of history.
It is critical that you understand that the City’s proposal is not only dangerous to our community in the near term, but also that it would result in a cascading series of events threatening our basic economic structures. It initiate a "dire" domino effect among homeowners, renters, social services, banks, insurance companies, city tax and all taxpayer-funded programs.
Those two councilmen are criminals, who is proposing an illegal change in the city ordinance. I do not care whether the proposal gets adopted because I will take legal actions against the council who violates the constitution.
Owner’s employment is also seriously affected by COVID-19, but loan still need to pay on time, city collect the utilities expense on schedule. This is not fair for property owner.
To suspend rent to benefit only one group of people, it only creates more problems to the society. To help the already troublesome economy, the Government should encourage the cash to flow. This unwise decision of rent suspension will bring economy downward spiral that Government will have hard time to reverse.

No relief for landlords including delaying property tax and tax credit. Landlord also needs to pay mortgage, which no relief comes from government.
