The list a few, mortgage, property tax, utilities, repairs. “Rent Waiver” cannot pass without the city forces the county not to collect tax, force banks not to collect mortgage and force repairmen waive the fee the meantime time to be fair and square. If city would like to help, please pay the tenant from city's reserve. You cannot rob property owners!!!! Get out of the country, you communists!!
Home owners are equally impacted. The rent income is the only income left to support their life line. Revoking their only income is providing them double damage and they are not in a position to pay rent for others while they are also suffering with the economy and have obligation to pay mortgage and taxes. The city needs to use public funds to help tenants who are impacted and behind their rent payments.
As landlord, I could not afford to pay my mortgage and keep maintenance of the rental house if tenants do not pay me rent from April to July this year.
Landlords have to pay mortgage and maintenance expenses. Unless you can put suspension on these obligations, it is not fair and unrealistic to ask landlords to suspend rent.
It is not fair for landlord, if tenant do not have to pay rent at all. Who will forgive the mortgage? If tenant do not pay at rent at all, the owner unable to pay mortgage & loss home , the home will belong to lender & tenant & landlord all loss. Most of landlord have mortgage, who will pay the mortgage for us ?
The City Attorney has already concluded this is an illegal action. What the City Council needs to confront is its instinct to relentlessly assault landlords. Rent Control has lead to acceleration in rent, causa justa has lead to explosion in evictions. The tenant/landlord relationship has to be evaluated as a set, an attack on one, hurts both. The knee jerk reaction of this council to punish landlords arbitrarily will continue to hurt tenants the most. Focus instead on incentives not punishment.
House owners are affected by Covid 19 as well. Who are going to protect them??? Are we also allowed to not pay mortgage for 3 months? This is just really unfair.
I think we should extend the period in which we give people to make up the delayed rent payments, without cancelling payment.
But by removing the obligation to pay their bills completely, you are simply shifting the burden onto the next guy. It's as if you have removed the first domino in the line. The other ones will still fall.
